Coulter earns Young Socceroos nod

by Zee Ko 0

Three Melbourne-based youngsters have been called up to the Young Socceroos training camp in Canberra next week, as they prepare for the AFC U-19 Championships in Myanmar next year.

Melbourne Victory youth goalkeeper Keegan Coulter has received his first call-up to the national set up, and he will be joined by teammate Scott Galloway as well as Melbourne Heart starlet Ben Garuccio.

The three are part of Paul Okon’s 23-player squad who will spend three days at the Australian Institute of Sport from December 10-12.

The competition in Myanmar will also serve as qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in New Zealand in July, 2015.

Okon said that the commencement of the 2013/14 Foxtel National Youth League had provided an insight to the next generation of eligible players.

“We are going through a process to identify a larger pool of players and that will start with this first group,” he said.

“Over the coming months we will be running a number of these camps that will allow me to see the quality of these players.

“This is a great opportunity for these players to come into a national team camp environment and see how they adapt both on and off the field.”
