Pascoe Vale have made their first mid-season acquisition, signing Melbourne Victory youth’s Matthew Hennessey for the remainder of the 2017 campaign.

The defender will bolster Vitale’s Ferrante’s squad which is still in the hunt for a top-six placing despite a recent run of four games without victory.

The grandson of former Wales international Terry and son of current Hume City technical manager Dean Hennessey, the 19-year-old made his top-flight debut at ABD stadium in 2014, going on to make 25 league appearances and scoring once.

He made headlines in 2015 when sitting a VCE exam before the club’s mammoth FFA Cup semi-final occasion against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park, which Hume went on to lose 3-1.

He would eventually go on to represent Victory, making the switch to the A-League outfit in 2016, where he spent 18 months predominantly representing the youth side.

Having experienced relegation from the top flight last year in the NPL, Victory overcame a tough start in 2017 to be sitting in third after a strong April, with Hennessey’s experience in Victoria’s top tier no doubt a lure for a club chasing finals football.

He is eligible to take part outside the transfer window being an U20 player.
