This Saturday’s NPLW Victoria clash between Calder United and Box Hill United will serve as more than just a rally for three competition points at Keilor Park Recreational Reserve, it will also host a fantastic cause.

Kiara’s Story is a fantastic initiative run by Grade Six student Kiara Comans, whose family has close ties with Keilor Park Soccer Club, sister club of Calder United.

She is on a quest to raise $20,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation before shaving her head on Blue Ribbon Day (October 26th), which coincides with the 10-year anniversary of her mum Michaela’s passing to the illness.

All Calder United teams, both senior and junior, will be wearing pink socks in recognition of the good work the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Kiara are doing, and will be collecting donations on the day.

They will also be running a sausage sizzle, with all proceeds going directly to Kiara’s fundraising endeavours.

“I hope some day soon, no one will have to die of breast cancer, so that children and families won’t have to live without their mothers,” told Kiara in a message to those supporting her cause.

“Over the next few months, Team Kiara will be out and about in the Mitchell Shire and at local markets with our donation tins. Our tins will be in the shops, schools and sport locations, and anywhere else we can think of.

“Donations can also be made on our website. I hope that you can find it in your heart to healp us, to help the national breast cancer foundation. Together we can beat breast cancer, thank you.”

Kiara has currently fundraised a staggering $13,000 towards her cause, to which you can donate now via the link below.

President of Calder United Eric Psarianos announced that Kiara would be tossing the coin at Saturday’s fixture, while also touching on how the event came to be.

“Calder United are extremely proud and honoured to be involved with Kiara and her endeavour to raise the awareness around this particular issue,” Psarianos said.

“The idea of supporting Kiara by holding our game against Box Hill United came from both Nigel Peterson (Calder United Treasurer) and Peter Kargiotis (Calder United Technical Director), who coincidentally raised it with me separately on the same day without each of them being aware the other was also thinking of it.

“This told me it was meant to be and here we are. Box Hill have been very supportive, and it is very much appreciated that they are also getting behind Kiara.

“I would also like to acknowledge Keilor Park SC for their support and assistance on getting behind Kiara’s cause and Keilor Park’s junior girls teams in age groups 9, 10 and 11 will be out in force after accompanying the senior team in to pitch rattling tins.

“Kiara will also be in attendance and will toss coin for senior game. We expect a great day will be had by all so please come out and support this brave young lady.”

We echo those sentiments and encourage the entire Victoria footballing community to rally behind the cause, and donate generously on the day and online.
