Match Report > Victory Women in full flight against Jets

***

GK: Brianna Davey – 7.5
Whilst it seemed she didn’t have to do much, that was only because she did everything she needed to do with little fuss. Held a few easy saves, but was also really proactive off her line, cleaning up any through balls with ease.

RB: Elli Reed – 7
Was extremely efficient early on during Newcastle’s best period, stringing together a series of accurate passes and clearances. Was needed less as the game wore on.

CB: Hannah Brewer – 7.5
Did well on the last line, reading the game well and breaking up play. Most important contribution was stopping a goalbound shot after

CB: Emma Checker – 6
A mixed day for Checker, whose marking seemed a bit loose, and nearly contributed to a Jets goal when Dobson got the better of her, but the Jet couldn’t work it past Davey.

LB: Steph Catley – 7
As usual, a composed performance by Catley, who was largely untroubled on the left side.

CM: Lauren Barnes – 7
A commanding performance, as she and Mastrantonio pulled the strings in the middle. A good link between defence and attack.

CM: Ella Mastrantonio – 7
A solid performance by Mastrantonio who partnered Barnes well. Played her midfield role with aplomb.

RW: Gema Simon – N/A
Wasn’t on the pitch long enough to make an impact before succumbing to illness.

CAM: Christine Nairn – 6.5
A quieter day for the American, whose participation was overshadowed by the Quigley and De Vanna show, but still a worthy contributor on the day with neat touches and passes.

LW: Lisa De Vanna (3 assists) – 9
A menace on the left wing, her runs were dangerous and her crossing into dangerous areas were pinpoint. It’s a different De Vanna these days, more renounced in the Victory team for her assists rather than goals.

★ ST: Racheal Quigley (3 goal) – 9.5
A sensational performance up front, all her goals required a fair degree of skill on the finish. Whether tucking home from a tight angle, or timing a lob to perfection, she was able to do it all.

Sub: Beattie Goad (1 goal, on 24′) – 6.5
Came on and made an immediate impact with some good passes on the right wing, before being on hand to tap home her second ever W-League goal. The youngster seemed to struggle in the heat later on.

Gulcan Koca (1 assist, on 64′) – 6.5
Set up Quigley’s hat-trick goal with some neat vision. Looked impressive after coming on for De Vanna.

Caitlin Friend (on 72′) – N/A
