Bentleigh Greens have announced the signing of two Queenslanders to bolster their squad for the 2017 NPL Victoria season.
21-year-old holding midfielder Marco Jankovic makes the switch from Brisbane Premier League side Lions FC, while 30-year-old Trent Clulow signs from Brisbane Strikers in the Queensland NPL.
Primarily based in Queensland having featured for the likes of Wolves FC and Toowoomba Raiders, Clulow is a front third player that can feature on either wing or in a central role.
A well-credentialled attacking midfielder, he’s previously had trials in the USA, Norway and turned down and offer in Sweden, while also trialling for Western Sydney Wanderers in the club’s inaugural season of the A-League.
He enjoyed league and FFA Cup success with the Strikers – taking out the Queensland NPL premiership before being eliminated in the finals in 2016 – before being offered a deal to join Bentleigh.
Jankovic meanwhile comes with various youth pedigree, having been involved in the national schoolboys setups and represented Queensland Country in the FFA National Youth Championships.
The former Olympic FC midfielder was part of the Lions FC side which claimed the BPL premiership in 2016.
He also recently represented a BPL select side which faced off against a Brisbane Roar team that featured Joey Katebian in an A-League pre-season fixture.
Jankovic and Clulow take Bentleigh’s transfer tally to six in the NPL off-season, joining Vojo Milojevic, Brandon Osipov, Stipo Andrijasevic and Nick Glavan at Kingston Heath for 2017.
TCF understands another Queenslander in Ben Litfin was set to also join the Greens before being signed by A-League club Wellington Phoenix.
