Three top flight teams departed the cup competition at the first hurdle, with Northcote City losing out to fellow NPL Victoria outfit Avondale FC 3-1, while there also losses to Dandenong Thunder and Werribee City, both to NPL 1 opponents. The rest escaped unscathed, with a few big results in the mix also. Eight NPL 1 outfits were knocked out at this stage, with two taken out in excruciating penalty shoot-out losses. This leaves a total of 24 teams in the top two leagues still in with a chance, with Nunawading still to play this afternoon.
