Acevski launches Hume battle cry

Lou Acevski has put out the call to all Hume City supporters to rally together for their season opener against Port Melbourne Sharks tomorrow afternoon.

In a press release from humecityfc.com, the head coach promised a strong showing from his new look outfit as they contend with a Port Melbourne side who have made significant waves in the transfer market in the pre-season.

“Port Melbourne is always tough to beat and will no doubt make things challenging for us on Sunday,” Acevski said.

“I’m urging all of our supporters to come along and support the boys. We’ve had a good pre-season, we’re ready to show off the hard work we’ve put in.”

Heading into the season opener, Acevski has lauded the club’s form during the pre-season, but admits they can’t rest on their laurels, declaring a start to ‘business’ on Sunday.

“The pre-season has been good, it’s been a step forward for the whole club,” he said.

“During the friendlies we’ve been trying to minimise mistakes. It’s been good to play games, we played about five matches this pre-season.

“We’re happy with where we are at with less than a week until Round One – the business starts next Sunday.”

On their new signings, Hume have added significant numbers to complement their sixth place squad from last season.

Defensive recruitment has come in the form of Shaun Timmins (South Melbourne) and Dean Tomeski (overseas), while Ivan Pavlav and former Ballarat Red Devils excitement machine Deng Aguek add attacking depth.

“Overall, I think we’ve strengthened our squad and I’m very happy with the individuals that have been recruited,” Acevski said of his signings.

“Finals is definitely our ambition. Anything more than that at this stage is a bonus, but we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure we finish inside the top six.

“Im confident the squad that’s been assembled is capable of achieving that goal.”

Hume will be eager to get the 2015 NPL season off to a flying start, and they can do just that against Port Melbourne, this Sunday, 22 February. Kick-off at Broadmeadows Valley Park is scheduled for 3pm.
