Aloisi confident of improvement

Ahead of Friday night’s clash against the Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park, Melbourne Heart FC coach John Aloisi is confident that his side can achieve a result against the reigning Premiers.

“If we keep on playing the way we are playing then we’ll get the results”, Aloisi said before training Thursday morning.

In what has been a frustrating opening month to the 2013-14 A-League campaign, Aloisi’s men, despite remaining winless, have shown a lot of positives but alternatively would consider themselves rather unfortunate to be sitting on the bottom of the table.

“It’s obviously disappointing that we are not winning the games or picking up more points that what we should.”

“The other day [against Brisbane] we created enough chances to win two or three games but we have to be more ruthless in front of goal and so it’s up to me to get that across to the players.

“As a coach I just have to look at making sure we keep on creating the chances that we are creating and stop the mistakes that we are making which are only minor but they are costing us at the moment.”

Aloisi is predicting the Wanderers to continue their excellent form heading into tomorrow night’s contest but is nevertheless looking forward to the challenge.

“Don’t expect too much different from them,” Aloisi said.

“They’re a very well organised side; best defensive side in the league, they break very well and in transition they are the best counter attacking team in the league.”

“They’ll be hard to break down and we just have to be careful in transition, make sure we don’t allow them to counter us so it’s going to be a tough game but we’re looking forward to it.”

Heading into the season with a new look squad, the 37-year-old has however been pleased with the development his side has shown thus far and is expecting performances to only get better.

“I’m happy with the way we are improving,” Aloisi said.

“We’ve got a lot of new players and they’re getting used to each other.

“Michael Mifsud was better again on the weekend, Iain Ramsay is coming on really well, Rob Wielaert [as well] and these guys will keep on improving.

“We knew it was going to take a little bit of time to get to where we want to be but we feel that the results haven’t gone our way just yet.”
