Football Federation Victoria has appointed George Angelopoulos to the new position of general manager of football development.

Angelopoulos returns to the organisation where he previously held roles such as head of football operations and head of business affairs between 2004-2008, and he was also acting chief executive officer for five months between 2006-2007.

In his time between FFV stints, Angelopoulos held positions at organisations including Aquatics and Recreation Victoria, Grasshopper Soccer (Victoria), Cricket Australia, and Moreland City Council.

Commencing his role in 2017, as described by the FFV his objectives will include to “work directly with relevant stakeholders, particularly with clubs to build capacity across metropolitan and regional Victoria to meet the needs and expectations of current and future football players, coaches, officials and administrators.

“This role is responsible for providing support to programs in order to integrate clubs, schools, and government initiatives. This role will be the face of football in Victoria for school programs, community club programs, club services and local government. The primary goal of the position is to facilitate the success of football clubs and schools as vehicles to develop and grow the sport in the community.

“The GMFD will enable, train and support clubs and schools to improve and strengthen their capacity and capability
regarding delivery and evaluation of a range of football programs and projects which focus on building inclusive,
active, resilient and capable local football communities within all of Victoria. This role will focus on building the
current capacity with sustainable initiatives to increase participation, longevity, awareness and a positive experience
through collaboration, advice, resources and thought leadership.”

There’s a distinct familiar look high up in the organisation’s hierarchy following Maxwell Gratton’s recent appointment as CEO, who served at the FFV between 2007 and 2014 in areas of special projects and discipline.
