Clinical Box Hill send seven past South Yarra

Box Hill United have completed a dominant performance with a bag full of goals, seeing off South Yarra 7-1 at Wembley Park on Friday night, securing valuable points to round off the first half of season 2015.

An eventful reserves match preceded the senior kick-off, with a local power surge knocking out the lights.

It took some time to resolve the issue, but fortunately the senior fixture kicked off right on time.

A dominant display by the home side was broken late in the opening period against the run of play by South Yarra, with Charman burying a beautiful corner sent in by Murphy, a world class effort that Southwell had absolutely no hope of stopping.

This began a chaotic end to the first half, as just moments after the restart of play, Bakopoulos broke through South Yarra’s lines with a real show of pace, cutting back just as she approached the 6-yard-box to flick in a curling effort on her left foot.

Again after the restart, and now level on the scoreboard, Box Hill won a corner quickly and Richardson placed it perfectly for Camilleri to volley superbly first time, just beating Bellman who simply could not react in time.

Camilleri had another opportunity a short time later, ending the half with a half-volley from another well placed Richardson corner, but this time Bellman was positioned well to make the stop.

The second half began much the same as the first, with Box Hill dominating possession, and just three minutes in it was Remman this time who found the net.

She followed up Richardson’s cross-come-shot from range that found the lower upright only to rebound off Bellman, who could not recover in time to stop the on-rushing Remman.

Box Hill were now full of confidence and it showed when Hulbert fired away from 25 yards out, beating Bellman who was caught off her line, and once again just a few minutes later by Amore, sending Box Hill ahead five goals to one just 13 minutes after trailing.

South Yarra had been under extreme pressure for some time but eventually found their feet, and Murphy would have pegged a goal back if not for a quick-fire double save from Southwell.

Unfortunately for South Yarra, Richardson’s corners were fast becoming their nemesis, and Zairis snuck in a lofting header just under the bar to become Box Hill’s sixth individual goal-scorer of the night.

A five goal lead was enough for John Kyrgios to substitute Southwell, allowing reserve keeper and former Boroondara Eagle Maddie Webster an opportunity in the Premier League.

With a little over five minutes to play, Camilleri was looking for more, almost sneaking one in from about 25 yards out, but Bellman managed a low save to the left with the ball spilling just wide of the upright.

It was Hulbert with the final word though, securing her second goal of the evening from range just 30 seconds before the final whistle.
