The North Geelong Warriors have added former Kingston City captain Andrew Doig to their senior playing roster, with the Scot becoming the club’s fifth signing of the summer.

The 29-year-old moves to Elcho Park having spent the latter half of 2016 with NPL2 West side Moreland City, making 10 appearances and scoring one goal under Adrian Mathers.

A junior at Hearts, Doig moved to Livingston in his mid-teens and was on a professional youth contract with the Scottish Premier League side before it hit administration in the mid-noughties.

He continued playing semi-professionally in his homeland before immigrating to Australia in 2010, firstly featuring for Shepparton South whilst doing regional work as a carpenter.

A stint at Broadmeadows Valley Park followed with Doig appearing for Hume City in the 2011 VPL season before having spells with Sunshine George Cross and Brunswick City.

A move to Kingston saw the central midfielder spend two and half years patrolling the middle of the park at the Grange Reserve under Nick Tolios, captaining the club and making over 50 league appearances.

Doig secured a move to 2015 NPL2 Champions Richmond last pre-season but left the club without playing a game and promptly joined Doncaster Rovers in State League Two, where he was reunited with former Kingston teammate Gino Defeo at Anderson Park.

A desire to return to the NPL saw the Scot move to Campbell Reserve for the second part of last season, where he continued to impress by marshalling the centre of the park.

Doig becomes the fifth player to move to the Warriors this off-season, following in the footsteps of Ivan Grgic (Melbourne Knights), Marko Stevanja and Bobby Vidanoski (both Werribee City) and Henry Durr (Perth Glory Youth).

Micky Colina’s men mark their return back to the top flight after a one-year absence with an away trip to Pascoe Vale on Friday February 10 at CB Smith Reserve.
