Peter Gome resigns as FFV CEO

President of the Football Federation Victoria, Kimon Taliadoros announced the resignation, by mutual agreement with the FFV Board, of CEO Peter Gome.

The President of FFV, Kimon Taliadoros says the FFV is now ready for the next exciting and ambitious stage of exponential growth during which it will work closely with its important stakeholders including the State Government through Sport & Recreation Victoria, VicHealth and Vicsport for the good of the game, its clubs and players.

TCF understands the FFV Board is evaluating options for an interim CEO before launching a transparent and wide-ranging recruitment process for a permanent appointment.

 

Key achievements of the FFV under Peter Gome

  • Prudent financial management of the Federation managing the explosive growth of participation whilst managing costs and staff numbers to deliver a record result. A four-fold increase in profit, positive cash flow of $2.2m and a significant increase in the balance sheet bottom line with net assets of $5m.
  • Renegotiation of with Council on the terms of the Knox Regional Football Centre delivering operational efficiencies and avoiding financial losses for the first time.
  • Launch of the Women in Football Network
  • Rationalised the structure of the FFV both from a corporate and operational perspective
  • Record number of coaches registrations with over 290 undertaking advanced training courses with the FFV
  • 20% increase in referee numbers reaching the 1,000 mark for the first time and over 80% of referees completing qualification upgrade courses
  • Implementation of the NPL Women’s competition delivering national standardisation and a new top tier for women’s football in Victoria. The NPLW delivered four new clubs in Southern United, Bayside United, Calder United and Geelong Galaxy
  • Implementation of the Community in Business initiative developing a networking forum for businesses and key stakeholders in Victorian football.

History of FFV CEOs

In May 2007 Mark Rendell was introduced as the new CEO together with a complete new Board. He made the transition to the FFV having served as the CEO at Bowls Australia for just under five years. Rendell presided over the game for five and a half years. He resigned in November 2012 to take on a another national sporting role, this time as the CEO of Gymnastics Australia.

In November Peter Gome was appointed as interim CEO by then FFV President Nick Monteleone. Gome would serve in the role for eight months whilst the recruitment process for a permanent CEO was undertaken by the FFV Board and recruitment company Derwent Executive.

In July 2013, the FFV appointed former Editor-in-Chief of Victorian Fairfax Community Newspapers Mitchell Murphy to the permanent CEO role. Murphy would join the organisation at a strenuous time as the Federation was in the midst of implementing the new National Premier League. In May 2014, having been in the role for just eleven months, Murphy would resign and return to Sydney on short notice for family reasons. Within a year he would be appointed as the CEO of A-League franchise the Newcastle Jets.

In June 2014, the FFV announced Matthew Annells, who was serving as the FFV’s General Manager of Football Operations, would become the Acting CEO.

In August 2014, the FFV announced it had appointed Peter Gome as the new CEO. On Thursday 9 June 2016, Peter Gome resigned as CEO by mutual agreement with the FFV Board.
