Pascoe Vale tcf_logo_pascoe_vale vs. Bulleen Lions tcf_logo_bulleen_lions

Football Manager’s take: It was a rampant performance from Pascoe Vale as they put in a dynamic display to come away with a big win. Tom Banfield began in goals for Bulleen Lions over Griffin McMaster, and was kept incredibly busy by a rampant Pascoe Vale, who registered 12 shots. Jake Nakic slided in the opener from a Joseph Youssef cross. Adrian Talarico and Davey van ‘t Schip combined for the second, while the fullback set up another goal for young Matty Conversano to tap home.
Man of the Match: Adrian Talarico (8.7)

Our take: Both sides have stuttered recently. After a blistering start to the season it’s been a bit of a barren run for Pascoe Vale following a scoreless draw against Northcote and last minute defeat to Port Melbourne. On the other hand, after being minutes away from a monumental win against South Melbourne, Bulleen had to settle for a draw and then lost to the Knights.

Bentleigh Greens tcf_logo_bentleigh-greens vs. Melbourne Victory tcf_logo_melbourne-victory

Football Manager’s take: Bentleigh Greens is predicted to come away from the high-profile clash with the full complement of points. Early on in the piece, Lucas Spinella spilled a Matt Thurtell shot, only to redeem himself with a superhuman save at the second attempt. Kamal Ibrahim won the tie with a belter of a strike from just inside the area late in the second half.
Man of the Match: Kamal Ibrahim (8.1)

Our take: It’s been a topsy turvy time for both sides. Coming off a 6-3 win over Richmond, Melbourne Victory didn’t take advantage of the week’s break, succumbing 3-0 to Hume City due to a number of defensive lapses. Bentleigh, on the other hand, could have taken top spot from South Melbourne but also lost on the weekend to Oakleigh in a rollercoaster encounter, with the lead switching multiple times.

Avondale FC tcf_logo_avondale-fc vs. Oakleigh Cannons tcf_logo_oakleigh-cannons

Football Manager’s take: Despite starting on the back foot, Avondale took an early lead through Abraham Yango, the hosts immediately improving from there on out. Some impressive shot-stopping from John Honos kept the Cannons in the contest in the first half, with Dean Piemonte duly obliging by grabbing a share of the spoils with a close range finish from Ross Frame’s cross.
Man of the Match: Luke Collaianni (8.1)

Our take: It may be panic stations for Avondale soon, with some of their big names not firing and the club still looking for its first points of the season despite some high profile acquisitions. On the other hand Oakleigh are riding high, overcoming their own slow start to notch two big wins in a row against Bentleigh and Hume.

Richmond SC tcf_logo_richmond-sc vs. Melbourne Knights tcf_logo_melbourne-knights

Football Manager’s take: Rossi early save to deny Andrijacevic. A flowing attacking move saw the Richmond lads exchange quick passes, with Hamlet Armenian on hand to tap home on the stroke of half-time. Liam Higgins audaciously made it 2-0 with a floated cross evading the hands of Fraser Chalmers from 30-yards.
Man of the Match: Hamlet Armenian (8.5)

Our take: Richmond are riding high after a miraculous five-goal turnaround against South, overcoming a 1-3 deficit at half time to win 6-3. It makes it two 6-3 scorlines in a row after losing by the same margin to Victory the week before. The Knights have been solid recently after accruing points against the likes of Northcote, Port Melbourne and Bulleen.

Green Gully tcf_logo_green-gully vs. Port Melbourne Sharks tcf_logo_port-melbourne-sharks

GGvPM- Match Stats

GGvPM- Player Stats

Football Manager’s take: The Football Manager engine put Green Gully’s win down to an inability for Port Melbourne to work the opposition keeper. Despite having nearly three times the shots of their counterparts, the Sharks hit the target just once, which culminated in the narrow loss. Liam Boland did the damage for Gully, nodding in from an Evan Christodoulou cross.

Man of the Match: Anthony Ragusa (7.4)

Our take: Gully are now well within the top six after a thumping 5-0 win over Northcote and look like making the most of their abundance of home fixtures. They sit on equal points with Port, who celebrated a last minute win over Pascoe Vale last week, and this game could go a long way to defining both clubs’ early season form overall.

Northcote City tcf_logo_northcote-city vs. Heidelberg United tcf_logo_heidelberg-united

NCvHU - Match Stats

NCvHU - Player Stats

Football Manager’s take: While they’ve struggled for form in real life, Northcote City continue to surprise virtually. A tough earned point against Heidelberg United nearly got off to a flying start with an early Calvin Mbarga strike declared offside. Phil Petrovski was kept busy for the hosts but was eventually beaten in the first half. Sean Ellis’ corner found an unmarked Reuben Way who was able to cushion a header for Kenny Athiu to finish. A fast counter saw Heidelberg caught out as Mbarga was able to tee up Michael Cunningham to finish his one-on-one chance.
Man of the Match: Phil Petrovski (7.5)

Our take: Well, this could be one of the bigger mismatches of the round, with Northcote still itching for their first win of the season. But their problem is goals, having scored once all season from the penalty spot, while Heidelberg have only conceded once since Round 1 to gradually move themselves up the table.

Hume City tcf_logo_hume-city vs. South Melbourne tcf_logo_south-melbourne

HCvSM - Match Stats

HCvSM - Player Stats

Football Manager’s take: FM predicts one-way traffic for South Melbourne against Hume in terms of the stats, with South bullying their opponents in possession and shots on goal. They weren’t able to trump them where it mattered however, as the game petered out to a 0-0 draw. Real chances were few and far between for either side.
Man of the Match: Matthew Millar (7.8)

Our take: Undoubtedly one of the games of the round, with both heavyweights looking to assert their early dominance on the competition and take top spot. Both are coming off patchy form, with Hume making amends for a loss against Oakleigh to beat Victory, while South seek their first win in three games after a draw and defeat against the two promoted clubs, Bulleen and Victory
