Foster enjoying life at Oakleigh

Oakleigh Cannons’ joint top-scorer Nate Foster can’t wait to face South Melbourne in the hotly anticipated top of the table clash, and is enjoying playing for his new club.

With the Cannons sitting nine points off the runaway leaders, a win will bring the gap back to six points, meaning this is a game which Foster believes acts as a mid-season grand final for both sides.

“We got to win against South Melbourne to put pressure on them,” Foster said.

“We win that game and it can change the whole season.

“That game is like a cup final for us and them so it’s important to win that game and get the three points and then we’ll be six points behind South which is good.

The Canadian striker has notched up his sixth goal against Werribee City last weekend, a goal he put down to the work of his teammate Goran Zoric.

“I’m glad I scored but to be fair Zoric did all the work so all the praise goes out to him,” he said.

“All I did was put the ball in the back of the net but it was a good team goal. I was just fortunate to be the last one to score but it was a good team goal.”

A forward with searing pace himself, Foster is happy to be in the same team as Zoric, as well as a team packed full of creativity in midfield, whereby everyone chips in with goals of their own.

“It’s good because when you’re fast, especially when you go up against slow defenders it helps a lot,” he said.

“We have a balanced team, we’re mobile all over the park so we always have a chance to break defences.

“Miron has a tough decision to make every single week because we have players that can bring people into the game, score goals and set up.

“We have Zoric on [four] goals, Deano on [four] goals, we have Dusan on six goals so we can score from anywhere all over the park which is good. It’s good to have that we can score from the midfield and from the strikers.”

His move from Dandenong Thunder has reaped the benefits so far, and Foster has only one factor in mind that makes him love life at Oakleigh, one which he hopes continues against the league leaders.

“I’m enjoying it here, just hopefully we keep winning,” he said.

“As long as we win then I’m enjoying it.”
