Altona Magic have secured the services of former NPL midfielder Joey Franjic for the 2017 State League 1 season.

The 25-year-old made 49 league appearances under Lou Acevski at Hume City between 2014-16, scoring a solitary goal in this season’s 2-1 Round 6 defeat to South Melbourne after joining the club from Sunshine George Cross in 2014.

The brother of Socceroo and Melbourne City defender Ivan made his senior top flight debut in 2010 with Melbourne Knights.

Franjic is the second former Hume City player to make a switch to the state leagues for 2017 following Shane Rexhepi’s move to North Sunshine Eagles.

“The club has one objective, which is to get back where it belongs amongst the elite NPL, that’s what I want to be a part of,” Franjic told the club.

Magic had also acquired numerous familiar faces from the NPL in recent times including Daniel Vasilevski, Daniel Visevic, Nikola Markovski and Ben Clarke.

Altona recently took out the SL1 title after defeating Mornington SC in the final.

The club is also expected to replace the outgoing Vlado Tortevski as senior head coach soon.
