Grant Brebner quits Richmond SC

Richmond Soccer club have announced that head coach Grant Brebner has resigned from the NPL 1 club, effective immediately.

The former Melbourne Victory midfielder had replaced former coach Jean-Marc Imbert at Richmond in 2013, following a short but unsuccessful stint as player/manager at Moreland Zebras in 2012, who were relegated that same season.

Having finished the VPL season second last only to the embattled Southern Stars, Richmond were placed in the second tier of the new Victorian competition, where, after a patchy start they sit in 11th place with one win, two losses and a draw.

In a brief statement on the club’s website, Richmond Soccer Club thanked Brebner for his services.

“The Club would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work he brought to the role and wish him every success in his future endeavours.”

After a distinguished career with Melbourne Victory spanning six years, over 120 games and two championships, the Scotsman is now the club ambassador, also appearing as an A-League pundit on Fox Sports.

Assistant coach Rick Mensink will lead the team on an interim basis, with Richmond now seeking a full-time replacement.

There had already been uncertainty surrounding Brebner’s position for some time, with rumours circling weeks ago that he had been sacked by the club.
