Gummer: Focus on ‘our’ game

Boroondara’s very own ‘Energizer Bunny’ Alex Gummer has acknowledged that it was concentration that allowed her side to come from a goal down to finish 6-2 victors against Sandringham SC at Kingston Heath on Monday night.

Two wonder goals to Gummer went along way towards the team’s success after the visitors fell behind in the 13th minute to a soft Christie Parton goal.

“I guess we just had to keep our focus,” Gummer said on conceding early.

“We can’t just let that slide that we’ve copped an early go so we just need to focus on playing our game which is our combination plays.

“We had some parts where we were a bit sloppy but we had some great combination plays so I think that once we tighten those little areas up, we’re going to be a really good side.

“Sandy are a great side so it was good to get the three points so that we can keep some pressure on the top teams.”

As for her personal contribution, along with a brace she just about covered every blade of grass on the pitch, and the midfielder admitted her fitness is still improving.

“I try and keep the fitness up and even try and improve it so then there’s definitely no way they’ll run out so I can put that extra 10% in every time.”

She was also modest in her self-assessment of the second goal; an absolute blinder for anyone watching but she was a lot more simplistic in her description.

“Just had a look, saw where the spot was and just picked it!”
