Hume City have completed the sensational signing of Green Gully marksman Liam Boland who becomes the club’s fifth signing of the off-season.
The 24-year-old joined Green Gully in May 2015 and in total made 38 league appearances, scoring 28 goals in the process.
The Perth native’s highlight at Green Gully Reserve was his memorable long-range winner against the Central Coast Mariners in the FFA Cup Round of 32 this year.
He scored a subsequent double in their 3-1 triumph away to the Melbourne Knights in the Round of 16 as their campaign ended with a 1-0 injury time defeat to Canberra Olympic last week in the final eight of the competition.
His previous spells have seen him play for WA NPL sides Perth SC and Florent Athena before moving to Victoria in 2015 by initially joining the Oakleigh Cannons.
Boland credited the club’s facilities and title aspirations are motivating factors behind his decision to move to ABD Stadium.
“Just the club’s direction that it wanted to go in,” Boland said via press release.
“It’s wanting to win trophies, it has had some big signings already this off-season and meeting with Dean (Hennessey) and the chairman (Steve Kaya) and realising that I’ve got to fulfil my potential, and me doing so could help the club bring in silverware.”
“The facilities at Hume as well, the club has got as good as facilities as there is in the league so I’m looking to forward to plying my trade at Hume.”
Boland joins Wayne Wallace, Atilla Ofli, Ersin Kaya and James McGarry as the new recruits, while Richmond left-back Kris Kioussis is also expected to join the club which will be looking to make a big statement in 2017 after an early elimination in the final series at the hands of eventual Champions South Melbourne.
