International Women’s Day to mark new WPL season

The WPL Victoria season will officially open on March 8th – International Women’s Day – at Broadmeadows Valley Park in Hume.

Each team will play an opponent on that Sunday to complete Round 1 fixtures.

Champions South Melbourne will open their account against the Senior NTC (renamed from FFV U17’s) under the guidance of new coach Socrates Nicolaidis, while triple promotion winners Caulfield United Cobras will hope to continue their meteoric rise with a win against last season’s strugglers, Sandringham.

Fellow newcomers South Yarra will face off against another league heavyweight in Bulleen Lions, with Bill Mihaloudis taking charge of Heidelberg for the first time against Casey Comets.

Overall, the season will consist of 138 games to be played over 13 venues, with the finals series consisting of five teams and beginning on the weekend of  September 4-7 , with the grand final scheduled for the weekend of September 26-27.

Monday night football will play host to Sandringham’s home games at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex, along with Bulleen’s home fixtures at David Barro Stadium.
