Melbourne Knights and Hume City have dipped into the interstate transfer market to bolster their squads for the 2017 NPL Victoria season.

The Knights signed winger Elvis Kamsoba from South Australia, while Hume added a goalkeeper in Michael Weier to their stocks.

Weier, from Brisbane Strikers, stood out in an FFA Cup round of 16 clash against Melbourne City – he then trialled with the A-League club in the off-season.

Earlier he had replaced Michael Turnbull at the Strikers, who was called up to Melbourne Victory in 2015 as an injury replacement for Nathan Coe.

Standing at 6’6 at just 19 years old, the imposing gloveman will look to fill the goalkeeping void following the departure of stalwart goalkeeper Chris Oldfield from Hume City.

The Queenslander is Hume’s seventh signing – including Atilla Ofli, Wayne Wallace, James McGarry, Liam Boland, Kris Kioussis and Ersin Kaya – as the club looks to prepare early for its league and cup charge in 2017, with Shane Rexhepi, Craig Carley, Kym Harris, Joey Franjic following Chris Oldfield to depart the club.

Meanwhile 20-year-old Kamsoba signed to the Knights from Croydon Kings in South Australia’s NPL.

Hailing from Burundi, the pacy and acrobatic winger had in recent seasons grown his reputation at the Adelaide Raiders, taking out the top goalscorer award in 2015, and best and fairest in 2014.

He was also involved in Adelaide United’s youth team, and had previously been a transfer target of the Knights.

Kamsoba joins Jake Barker-Daish and Kym Harris as new signings at Somers Street for 2016, with the trio replacing departures James McGarry, Stipo Andrijasevic and Nick Glavan.
