Another round of VPL fixtures is down and there was no change at the top or bottom of the table as Northcote City continued their winning ways while Richmond made it eight straight losses. Ljubo Milicevic made a return in the South Melbourne vs Melbourne Knights derby no less while Miron Blieberg finally got off the mark at Oakleigh.

Ten-man Bentleigh Greens and Port Melbourne played out a rather dire 1-1 draw to open the round. Aron Wilford was adjudged to have fouled Luke Bowen which resulted in Graham Hockless netting the opening goal from the penalty spot, but Luke Pilkington was gifted an equaliser just minutes later. Luke Sherbon was sent-off for the home side with fifteen minutes to go and the game finished 1-1.

Northcote City 1 (Milos Lujic 65′)
Venue: George Andrews Reserve

Dandenong Thunder suffered a 1-0 loss to league-leaders Northcote City in front of their first home crowd of the season on Friday night. Milos Lujic’s second-half strike was enough for Northcote to secure their eighth win of the season and condemn the Thunder to their third consecutive loss.

Saturday 15 June, 2013
Southern Stars 1 (Nicholas McKoy 19′)
Green Gully Cavaliers 2 (Osagie Ederaro 16′, 58′)
Venue: Kingston Heath Soccer Complex

Green Gully Cavaliers picked up just their second win from their opening eight games of the season with a 2-1 victory away to Southern Stars on Sunday evening. Osagie Ederaro opened the scoring for Gully after just 16 minutes but their lead only lasted another three minutes after Nicholas McKoy slotted home the equaliser. The game fizzled up until the hour mark when Ederaro scored what proved to be the winner.

Sunday 16 June, 2013
Hume City 1 (Nick Hegarty 42′)
Pascoe Vale SC 0
Venue: Broadmeadows Valley Park
hume1pascoe0

A lone goal by 2012 Player of the Season Nick Hegarty ensured Hume City picked up all three points at home to Pascoe Vale. Hegarty scored a contender for goal of the season minutes before half-time, with Hume holding to their slender advantage after a barrage of Pascoe Vale attacks in the second-half. The win means Hume have won all of their past four and move in to third on the table, an incredible turn around.

Sunday 16 June, 2013
South Melbourne 2 (Bradley Norton 24′, Ljubo Milicevic 62′ OG)
Melbourne Knights 2 (Ben Surey 9′, Shayan Alinejad 29′)
Venue: Lakeside Stadium

Traditional rivals South Melbourne and Melbourne Knights played out a 2-2 draw at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Knights captain Ben Surey opened the scoring after just nine minutes before Bradley Norton equalised fifteen minutes later. Shayan Alinejad put the Knights back ahead five minutes later. The talking point before the game was Ljubo Milicevic’s signing with the Knights, and he turned out to be the talking point at the conclusion of the game as well after his own goal just after the hour mark ensured the game finished all square.

Sunday 16 June, 2013
Oakleigh Cannons 4 (Dusan Bosnjak 19, 71′, Goran Zoric 22′, 59′)
Richmond SC 2 (Erhan Karahan 82′, Josh Groenwald 90′)
Venue: Jack Edwards Reserve
oakleigh4richmond2

Oakleigh Cannons went in to their encounter with bottom-placed Richmond win-less in their past five games, but a brace each to Dusan Bosnjak and Goran Zoric made sure Miron Blieberg picked up his first points as manager. Oakleigh raced out to a 4-0 lead before a lack of concentration towards the end saw Erhan Karahan and Josh Groenwald pull it back to 4-2.
