Melbourne Knights have added Tim Purcell to their squad for the 2016 NPL Victoria season.

The 27-year-old midfielder joins from Dandenong Thunder, where he played 13 games after joining mid-season from Richmond SC.

Prior to his move, he had played over five seasons at Kevin Bartlett Reserve.

The Irish youth international joined in 2011 from Waterford United F.C. in his home country.

Previously, he was at University College Dublin A.F.C since 2006, winning the Irish First Division title in 2009 after being relegated from the Premier Division the year before.

After his move to George Andrews reserve in 2015, he recommitted with Thunder in October for 2016 but the lure of top flight football was too difficult to resist.

He becomes the Knights’ fifth signing of the off-season, joining Nikola Jurkovic, Stefan Cali, Dean Campelj and Nick Glavan at Somers Street for the 2016 campaign.

The oldest of the new additions, Purcell will add experience to the Knights midfield also containing the likes of James McGarry, Marijan Cvitkovic and Ben Surey, who all also recently re-signed with the club along with 11 others.
