The Victorian footballing community is banding together with a number of NPL clubs joining forces on Monday, February 15 to raise funds for the Joey Lynch fundraising appeal.

Kick a Goal for Joey Lynch is an event bringing together members of the Victorian football community for a night of entertainment ahead of the 2016 NPL season, in turn supporting the 24-year-old and his family in their attempts to raise the funds needed for treatment in his fight against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

The dinner will be hosted by Fox Sports Football presenter Tara Rushton and former South Melbourne president and media personality George Donikian at the Stars International Receptions Centre in Preston.

Tickets for the evening are priced at $90 per head, with many of the city’s football personalities to be in attendance. Dinner kicks-off at 7pm and is to be followed by an auction and presentations from guest speakers.

Joey is a former Doncaster Rovers Soccer Club junior and the son of The Age’s long-standing chief football writer, Michael Lynch.

He has been battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for eight years, having been diagnosed in 2008 as a 16-year-old.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to CanTeen, an organisation helping raise money to fund Joey’s treatment in America.

The total amount raised so far is just over $350,000 and has been greatly boosted by the Lift for Lynch appeal started by Fox Sports in November, in addition to other initiatives launched by the likes of Tim Cahill, A-League clubs and fans, and Knox City among others recently.

The tally is building towards the $850,000 required to send Joey to the United States for the world-first clinical trial.

The timing of the event is scheduled just three nights out from the NPL season launch and is a good opportunity for representatives, members and supporters of NPL clubs to convene while supporting a great initiative.

Tickets for the event can be purchased by directly contacting Michael Lynch through his email address, micklynch35@hotmail.com, direct message over Twitter @MickLynch_Age, or his mobile number 0409933064.
