NPL Player of the Month: April

by Mark Gojszyk 0

A strong balance of defenders and attackers in our five picks, with some sharpshooters and defensively solid players standing out for their sides in April, a month that saw the league’s ladder chop and change so many times from top right down to 12th.

We’d also like to remind you that the winner at the end of the voting cycle will also win a $100 gift voucher courtesy of Soccer 5s Dandenong, to use on pitch-hire and a range of other offerings, so get voting via the poll below!

Michael Eagar (South Melbourne)

Injuries have hampered Eagar in recent seasons to the point where his place in the XI was lost. But credit to him as the former skipper has worked his way into first team contention and in the past month has cemented his spot alongside Luke Adams, working his way back ahead of the highly rated Carl Piergianni. His form has coincided with South’s unbeaten run in the league in April, back at Lakeside and back making their way up the ladder, with the Kiwi strong in the challenge, in the air,

Sean Ellis (Heidelberg United)

Think back to the beginning of the month when Heidelberg took on North Geelong Warriors. Despite a red card, the Bergers ended up winning 8-0 with Ellis notching up an incredible five goals. He’s since added to that tally, netting against Pascoe Vale, and put in a clinical attacking shift against Bentleigh with another goal and a couple of assists, continuing to be one of his side’s most creative outlets.

Damian Iaconis (Kingston City)

Kingston’s tenure in the top tier has been impressive to date, certainly the best of the promoted sides, with Iaconis one of the key cogs of City’s campaign. The 20-year-old striker has proven himself as one of the most clinical marksmen one third into the season, sitting equal second. Four of those came in April in four games (due to the most recent against Avondale being postponed. Scored in a respectable draw against Bentleigh, was on fire with a brace against St Albans, and also found the back of the net in a defeat to Bulleen.

Nick Krousoratis (Green Gully)

Injury clipped Krousoratis’ wings last season but when he did feature he made a massive difference. While 2017 started a bit slow results-wise for Gully, both the team and player have had a breakout month in April that ended with them on top of the ladder, and Krousoratis netting four of his five league goals in the month. Not only that, he’s consistently troubled defences with an array of trickery and linked well with the rest of his side’s front third.

Eli Luttmer (Bulleen Lions)

Early in the month Bulleen was having a tough time of it, defeats to Bentleigh and Pascoe Vale leaving it languishing in the relegation half-spot in 12th. But since then, defeats against the in-form Kingston, strugglers St Albans, and an impressive 3-0 win against Port Melbourne capped it all off. Not only has Luttmer been defensively solid in that time, he had an assist against Kingston and netted a double to sink the Sharks to cap off impressive all-round performances.
