NPL Victoria Team of the Week: Round 11

by Mark Gojszyk 0

GK: Nikola Roganovic (South Melbourne)
South Melbourne may have recorded a 3-0 win but certainly didn’t have it have it their way all the time, with Pascoe Vale spurning a number of chances. But South also had Roganovic to thank because, despite a minor spill that nearly ended in a goal, made numerous clutch saves especially at the end to preserve a clean sheet.

RB: Eli Luttmer (Bulleen Lions)
This one picks itself, really. A brace for a fullback doesn’t occur all that often but that was Luttmer’s input – plus a clean sheet- in a 3-0 win against Port Melbourne which caps off a great month for player and club alike.

CB: Luke Adams (South Melbourne)
A striker’s finish for a goal and a decent shift at the back to contribute to a clean sheet marked a fruitful day out for the Kiwi against Pascoe Vale as he helps his side move up the ladder while keeping himself in national team contention.

Steven Pace (Heidelberg United)

The experienced campaigner was as commanding as usual at centre-back, dealing with most that came his way, and also added a goal to the tally.

CB: Adrian Chiapetta (Oakleigh Cannons)
It’s sometimes easy to forget Chiapetta’s presence at Oakleigh given his injury run in recent years, but his importance was telling as he helped his side notch up another win and a clean sheet against Hume City to take the side further away from the relegation and towards the top six.

RB: Reuben Way (Heidelberg United)
Has been utilised in numerous roles in the Bergers XI in the past, including at fullback. Was there against the Bentleigh Greens and proved to be one of his side’s best with an expert combination of defensive stability and a bit of flair going forward.

CM: Davide Cardamone (Bulleen Lions)
A mature performance from one of the more senior heads in a youthful line-up. Netted a long-range bullet and also assisted Luttmer to help propel Bulleen to their third straight win.

CM: Ioannis Georgopoulos (Oakleigh Cannons)
The midfielder worked extremely hard in the centre of the park, making it difficult for Hume to make inroads through the middle and minimising their opportunities.

RW: Nick Epifano (South Melbourne)
Was involved in all three of South’s goals against Paco, with an assist, a sealer, and his free-kick delivery eventually led to Luke Adam’s strike. Has been a key cog of South’s league revival since his return from suspension.

LW: Sean Ellis (Heidelberg United)
Sliced open Bentleigh with two assists and a goal. Played Athiu through on goal for the first, his corner was nodded in by Pace for the second, and then cut in to net in the third.

ST: Nick Krousoratis (Green Gully)
We didn’t have a central striker pick this week so Krousoratis fills that gap. Gully have tended to switch it on when needed this season, and likewise Krousoratis’ all-important equaliser for a 10-man Gully started the incredible turnaround.

Bench:

John Honos (Oakleigh Cannons)
Did not have all that much to do on the night but was unbeatable when called upon, denying James McGarry and particularly Atilla Ofli late with an acrobatic effort.

Vito Cichello (North Geelong Warriors)
A busy performance in the middle from Cichello who was one of North Geelong’s best on a tough day. Was dominant throughout midfield.

Lewis Hall (Heidelberg United)
Like many Bergers players, Hall lifted for the occasion. He did exceptionally well to shield Heidelberg’s backline, winning plenty of the ball and denying his opposition openings.

Joey Monek (St Albans)
One of St Albans’ brighter players who was constantly looking to create opportunities and posed a regular threat for the hosts’ fullbacks.

Jay Davies (Green Gully)
A couple of key moments for Davies who grew into the game. His lobbed ball eventually found its way to Krousoratis for the goal, and also his control and delivery across the face was turned into the back of the net for the winner.
