Pavlovic, Rooney depart Oakleigh

Oakleigh Cannons’ mid-season acquisitions Sean Rooney and Mirjan Pavlovic have departed the club and will link up together at relegated NPL NSW side Marconi Stallions.

Both arrived at Jack Edwards Reserve during Arthur Papas’ tenure in 2015, embarking on a Cup run that ended in a quarter-final of the FFA Cup and final of the Dockerty Cup.

While Oakleigh’s NPL form was disappointing, finishing 11th, Pavlovic stood out with seven goals in 13 league appearances, while Rooney scored twice in eight games.

Both forwards have A-League experience with Newcastle Jets, while Pavlovic also netted two goals in a 25-game stint at Wellington Phoenix.

They join another former Jets player at Marconi, with Marko Jesic also signing with the club.

All three are forwards with Australian youth international experience, but have never been capped at senior level.

The former NSL club will be looking to immediately bounce back from a horror season that ended in relegation from the NSW NPL in 2015.

Oakleigh has been busy in the off-season, signing Corey Slevin from Bendigo City, while former Cannons youngster Thomas Lakic re-joins the club after stints at Melbourne Victory youth and South Melbourne.
