Calder United have secured another massive off-season coup, with dynamic young midfielder Emma Robers to join the club for their 2017 NPLW season.

The 18-year-old joins Dani Gudelj as signings for the upcoming campaign as Mark Torcaso looks to add a bit of youthful spark to his Championship winning team.

Robers signalled her delight at joining the club, and the chance to work with two experienced coaches in Torcaso and assistant Ian Williamson.

“I am very happy to be joining Calder,” Robers said.

“I believe Mark and Ian will help me get to another level with my game”

Her career began in the junior set up of Sandringham SC, before Robers spent two seasons honing her craft under newly appointed Southern United coach Rob Giabardo in Beaumaris Soccer Club’s Under 14’s boys side.

She progressed through to the State Development Program, where she got a taste of a more intense training regime, but never featured for the first team in the WPL.

Instead, it was upon her return to Sandringham that she broke through to make her senior debut as a 15-year-old, earning a birth at left back in the first game of the 2014 WPL season, in a 6-1 win over the Senior NTC.

Robers played the season out in the unfamiliar fullback role, but got a birth through the midfield in 2015 in an accomplished year for the youngster.

The midfielder took her game to another level with Bayside this year, where she was one of their most important players across the span of the season, sitting on the cusp of W-League honours.

Torcaso believes the future is bright for the newest member of the Calder United squad, and believes the environment they’re offering will help her continue the trajectory she’s on.

“Emma is a fantastic up and coming prospect. She was clear of her ambitions and they where to continue to develop and get better,” he said.

“We are excited by her arrival and with the playing group we have we feel we can help her get to the next level.”

The latest addition takes Calder’s senior squad to a healthy 17 players ahead of next year’s campaign.
