Skoko: We deserved nothing

North Geelong Warriors coach Ante Skoko admitted they deserved nothing from the game after a disappointing 2-0 loss to Kingston City on Saturday afternoon.

Whilst the away side had plenty of the ball at times, and their fair share of chances too, their inability to put the ball into the back of the net was their downfall.

“I just thought we never got going, I mean, we sort of played in patches, a bit sporatic,” Skoko said post-game.

“We hit the post I think four times today so, if you don’t score you don’t win. It’s that simple.

“I thought we were good enough. I thought in the end we created enough chances and the situations to score goals, it’s just in front of goals, that little bit of luck is what you need sometimes – and it just wouldn’t go in for us today.

“Like I said if you don’t score you don’t win, you don’t really deserve anything.”

Whilst confidence was high leading into the game, the Easter break may have stifled any momentum North had built following their two consecutive wins leading into the bye.

“I think we’re pretty confident in general, the boys have been together for a few years, there’s no issue with that,” the North Geelong coach said.

“We came here to win a game, we go into every game looking to win – unfortunately it just wasn’t our day.

“I think you always have those issues [with byes] but I think you can’t blame games on this and that.

“It’s the same for both sides, and I think the boys were probably a bit lazy today and didn’t do all those things that we ask them every week and that showed.”

This week sees the Warriors face up against cellar dwellers FC Bendigo, and with the pressure and expectation of a win on the clubs shoulders, Skoko believes the difference will be in how they improve before the clash.

“We go into every game with the expectation to win, both tactically and physically, and you’ve got to work towards that,” he said.

“We’ll just continue trying to improve the way we play, especially playing through teams in midfield.

“[On Saturday] we became a bit disjointed, the quality is a little bit better so we’ll just work on that, and sending the ball forwards, get better control in dangerous areas and then obviously work on that finishing.”

North Geelong Warriors play host to bottom side FC Bendigo on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off at Elcho Park is scheduled for 3:00pm.
