South Melbourne have made former Green Gully right-back Amadu Koroma the sixth addition to the 2016 playing roster as Chris Taylor’s men step up preparations ahead of the 2016 NPL Season.

The 24 year-old has been on trial at Lakeside Stadium since the beginning of December and has impressed in numerous pre-season friendlies.

Originally from Sierra Leone, Koroma and his family re-settled in Tasmania where he piled his trade with the New Town Eagles before impressing at the Glenorchy Knights.

He made the move across the Bass Straight in 2011 when he agreed terms with Glenorchy’s Victorian sister club by signing for the Melbourne Knights under then Manager Ivan Duzel.

Koroma made his competitive debut for the club in a 3-2 home defeat against the VTC before making a further appearance off the bench in a 3-1 loss to rivals and new employers South Melbourne.

With his game time at Somers Street limited, Koroma spent the latter half of the season at fellow Sunshine based club Western Suburbs in State League 1 where he made seven appearances under Huss Skenderovic, which included scoring the solitary goal in an away victory over Langwarrin.

A move to Churchill Reserve in 2012 followed as the Sierra Leone born utility made 14 appearances for a Micky Colina coached St Albans Saints outfit which finished in ninth position on the State League 1 final standings.

A move back to the top-flight followed for Koroma in 2013 as he joined the newly promoted Port Melbourne Sharks, spending the next two seasons of his career at JL Murphy Reserve.

In 32 league appearances for the Sharks, he helped Eric Vassiliadis’ side avoid relegation in 2014 before joining Green Gully ahead of the 2015 NPL campaign.

Despite a promising start to his career at Green Gully Reserve which included two Team of the Week nominations, Koroma struggled to establish himself in the starting eleven in the second part of the season and left the club at season’s end after making a total of 15 appearances in green.

The right-back is also capable of playing as a right winger impressed Taylor and his coaching staff in a number of recent friendlies, which included getting himself on the scoresheet in a 2-1 triumph over Knox City.

He joins Matthew Foschini, Marcus Schroen, Zain Zeneli and Luke Eyles as new additions to the South Melbourne dressing room, having faced off against the defeat against Bentleigh Greens in the FFV’s Community Shield match-up on February 12 at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.
