Sunshine look to rebuild momentum with squad changes

Despite the transfer window closing before the first round, a number of changes to Sunshine George Cross’ playing roster have taken place as Tony Ciantar’s men look to rebuild momentum in the 2016 NPL2 season.

Centre-back Eddie Cetkin and goalkeeper understudy James Kaparunovski have departed, while Denis Dasoul returns alongside the signing of two goalkeepers.

Despite previously documented off-pitch issues leaving the club without any points, the club has embarked on changes on the pitch and its starting XI to help it off the foot of the table, where the club was previously on four points.

Both Eddie Cetkin and young goalkeeper James Kaparunovski departed for undisclosed reasons.

Meanwhile, captain and goalkeeper Robert Santilli recently suffered broken toes in his left foot in a clash against North Geelong Warriors.

George Cross quickly added the signature of Senad Ahmetovic from State League 1 powerhouse Mooralbark, which recently knocked Bendgio City out of the FFA Cup.

Ahmetovic will be an immediate injury replacement for Santilli, who is expected to miss six-eight weeks.

It marks a massive rise for the former, who was playing State League 5 with Springvale City last year.

Another goalkeeper has also been signed to the 20’s squad as an understudy to Ahmetovic until Santilli returns.

There are more promising signs at Chaplin Reserve as Denis Dasoul returned back to the training track at Chaplin Reserve after being absent for the past few weeks, boosting the club’s midfield stocks.

Sunshine fell in a tough 4-2 encounter to Dandenong Thunder and will look to bounce back this Saturday as they welcome Springvale White Eagles.
