Warrior Zadworny to become a Knight

Melbourne Knights have moved quickly to secure the signature of star North Geelong winger Robert Zadworny in the mid-season transfer window.

The player of Polish descent – who previously trialled in Poland – has been one of the club’s standout players this season, scoring seven goals in a Warriors outfit that had struggled to adapt to the rigours of top flight Victorian football.

“Zippy” will be expected to provide spark to a Knights’ lineup which hasn’t yielded much joy from its wide attackers yet, with both Adrian Zahra and Stipo Andrijasevic yet to score a league goal in 2015, and the majority of scoring responsibilities resting on the shoulders of Andrew Barisic and Tomislav Uskok.

Following a blistering start to the competition with five wins from as many games, the Knights dropped slightly to 4th place and have been looking to strengthen their squad in their pursuit of the competition’s leaders.

Meanwhile, North Geelong will be scrambling to replace a player of Zadworny’s quality, with the club expected to sign a number of reinforcements in its attempts to avoid relegation in its first season after being promoted from NPL 1.
