Familiar faces greet City fans at first training

Melbourne City have taken to the field for the first time as an official squad, with their first training session post-trials taking place at La Trobe this morning.

Lisa De Vanna, Larissa Crummer, Laura Alleway, Monique Iannella, Beattie Goad and Alex Chidiac were amongst those who featured on the park, with plenty of other interesting names amongst those in action.

Newest signings Marianna Tabain – from Perth Glory – and goalkeeper Trudy Burke featured, as did Melbourne Victory’s golden boot winner Racheal Quigley, 2015 player of the year Amy Jackson, and Kiwi international defender Rebekah Stott – also former Victory – although Quigley is rumoured to be a part of the squad as a train on for the 2015-16 season.

Plenty of familiar faces from the Women’s Premier League featured: Bulleen Lions fledglings Bella Scott, Maddie Stockdale and skipper Tessa Sernio; Ashburton United’s prodigiously talented winger Melina Ayres and teammate Liv Edwards; Heidelberg United’s Mexican international Anisa Guajardo and goalkeeper Kelsey Quinn; Bundoora’s Tyla-Jay Vlajnic; and Boroondara’s WPL Premiership winner Liv Ellis amongst the players that were in action.

Watch City take part in their first official training session here.

It remains to be seen which – if any – of the eight WPL players yet to sign are going to be a part of City’s official W-League squad for 2015-16 or train-ons, despite all surviving through a rigorous trial period.

As The Corner Flag reported last month, Steph Catley has also officially signed on for a season.
