Fantastic Four get U17 summons

Australian U-17 Women’s National Team Head Coach Belinda Wilson has called up four Victorian players in a 23-player squad for a training camp which will be held from 9-18 August at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Forwards Eleni Fakos and Beattie Goad have been joined by defender Madeline Stockdale and midfielder Jessica Pitts as they prepare for a friendly international double header against New Zealand’s U-17 Women’s team which will be played on Wednesday 14 August and Saturday 17 August at the AIS Athletics stadium.

The four players have been rewarded for their fine form playing for the EAP and NTC squads in Victoria this season, and will no doubt be looking forward to wearing national colours against the Kiwis.

Wilson will be using the training camp and matches to prepare for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Women’s Championships, which will be held in China in September this year.

“This my first opportunity to work with this group girls as the head coach,” said Wilson.

“There are a couple of new faces in the group in comparison to the squad that played against Korea recently.

“We will be looking to improve on what we have been working on in training and applying that to international football,” concluded Wilson.

The AFC U-16 Women’s Championships 2013 is the official FIFA qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica.
