With the FFA Cup entering the fourth round, this is the stage where the NPL clubs come into action.
This time last year saw a number of upsets involving state league clubs, including Murray United being knocked out by Morwell Pegasus (S1), Sunshine George Cross losing out on penalties to North Sunshine Eagles (S1) in a 6–6 classic, St Albans Saints also bowing out on penalties to Caulfield United Cobras (S3), and Old Scotch (S2) knocking out Nunawading City.
An oddity of the 2016 FFA Cup draw sees no divisional rivals play each other in the opening round. Four NPL clubs have drawn NPL2 opposition, while there is two NPL2 cross-conference match-ups to start the competition. Full fixture details will be made available later on in the week.
