Have City found their final international?

Melbourne City through their captain Lisa De Vanna may have just revealed who their final international player is, after a tweet last night from the forward hinted heavily at the final big-name signing.

Seen in a car selfie snap taken by De Vanna is new Melbourne City teammate Kim Little; the Scottish international expected to link up with the squad for this weekend’s game against Perth Glory.

With them however is fellow Scottish international and Manchester City defender Jennifer Beattie, veteran of 89 senior caps and a career spanning France, England and her home nation, all at the tender age of 24.

The move makes sense for all parties, the English domestic season finished in early October for Beattie’s City, while a move from the sister clubs wouldn’t be a hard one to organise logistically.

The goal-scoring defender started her senior career with Queen’s Park in the Scottish Women’s Premier League in 2006, before securing a move to Celtic just two years later.

A strong season saw her make the move south to England, where she made a high-profile transfer to Arsenal, making 24 starts and 30 sub appearances for the Gunners, scoring 16 goals in the process.

She then spent a season and a half in France with Montpelliere, where the club secured successive fourth place finishes in the league, before returning to England with Manchester City for the 2015 FA Women’s Super League.

She made 21 appearances in all competitions for City, and helped them towards a second place finish and Champions League qualification, also going on the longest unbeaten run of the season of 10 games.

If the move proves to be true, she’ll most likely fill the void at right-back currently occupied by Mexican international Anisa Guajardo, offering a physically imposing option at fullback while still offering attacking flair from a wide position.
