Match Report > Dimovski heroics not enough for Victory

***

GK: Cassie Dimovski – 11
Clearly a massive 24 hours for Australian goalkeepers as Dimovski followed in the steps of Ante Covic before her and put in a simply remarkable display of shot-stopping. She was brave, acrobatic and so commanding despite conceding three.

LB: Gema Simon – 5.5
Played a decent game in defence for her side, putting in an industrious shift as the wide centre-half in the first half before shifting out into left back. Made a crucial sliding tackle to save a certain goal in the second half.

CB: Hannah Brewer – 5
Slipped into centre-back and did a credible job. Not too much she could do to impact the Perth Glory goals but really struggled to contain the pressure overall.

CB: Lauren Barnes – 6.5
Had to do it hard without Emma Checker next to her, and a relatively different looking back four (in the second half at least). Did admirably and made a good goal line clearance. Arguably the one that kept D’Ovidio onside for the goal.

RB: Elli Reed – 4.5
Didn’t damage from a deeper position. While she’s been accustomed to a spot in midfield since moving Down Under, she dropped back into a more comfortable full-back spot but seemed a bit lost. Foord got the better of her, especially for the goal.

CM: Amy Jackson – 5
The midfield went inexplicably missing against the Glory, and Jackson was one of the trio to not impact the contest. Worked hard behind the play but didn’t offer enough incisiveness.

CM: Ella Mastrantonio – 4.5
See Jackson. She again worked hard but didn’t offer enough in the link-up, with most of Victory’s best opportunities coming from the counter down the flanks.

AM: Christine Nairn – 5
Nairn was the real ‘Quiet American’ today, as she failed to get a foothold in the contest. Much like the rest of the midfield – which have performed admirably so far this season – she just had a quiet afternoon. As a collective, they won’t want to dwell on that performance too much.

LW: Steph Catley – 8 (1 assist)
The best of the outfield players for Victory by a country mile. Worked hard along the left side as a wing back, before given the licence to roam further up the pitch where she hurt Perth on the break. Scored a goal which was wrongly chalked off for offside and supplied the assist for Quigley’s goal.

ST: Racheal Quigley 6.5 (1 goal)
What a stunning strike it was from Racheal Quigley to temporarily split the two sides. Credit where it’s due for the technique displayed to pull off the volley. Unfortunately she faded, but came close early in the second half as she lunged out to meet a Catley cross.

RW: Tiffany Eliadis – 5
Wasn’t a major player in her first start of the year but she displayed an impressive work-rate to push back when the pressure was mounting.

Sub: Gulcan Koca – N/A (on 70′)
