Here are the match ratings from Melbourne Victory’s exciting 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar yesterday afternoon.

Match Report > Nairn strikes dagger into Roar hearts

***

GK: Brianna DAVEY – 7
Could do nothing about the goal. After a few shaky moments early with her distribution, Davey grew into the game. Was good both on and off her line, with a fingertip save to deny Raso the highlight of her day.

RB: Elli REED – 6.5
A decent all-round effort by Reed, who did well to get in advanced positions, but as a result did get caught, leaving Brisbane players in space down her side

CB: Hannah BREWER – 6.5
Could perhaps have done more to close down and hassle Raso to prevent the first goal, and had nervy moments with the Roar able to split her and Checker apart at times.

CB: Emma CHECKER – 6.5
Wasn’t troubled too much, but did miss a few tackles and could have been more  solid on the day.

LB: Stephanie CATLEY – 7
The captain was commanding, the pick of the backline. Got forward as well and nearly nabbed a goal of her own.

CM: Amy JACKSON – 6.5
A strong presence in midfield, Jackson was mostly solid, but could perhaps have done more to screen her back four from the likes of Raso, allowed to much time to dribble near the box.

CM: Lauren BARNES – 6.5
Unlucky not to equalise as her shot hit crossbar. Like Jackson, may have offered the defence some more protection, but her effort in willing the team on in the latter stages did not go unnoticed.

CAM: Christine NAIRN – 7.5 (1 goal)
Had more good moments than bad. She assisted De Vanna’s assist with a perfect diagonal ball, blazed an indirect free-kick over the bar, and scored the winner with a brilliant run that sliced open the defence.

LW: Lisa DE VANNA – 7 (1 assist)
Her silky smooth skills were on display in patches, but not enough to warrant a higher rating. Did tee up Quigley for the equaliser with a pinpoint low cross.

RW: Beattie GOAD – 5
A game in which the youngster really struggled to get involved, making few touches. Admitted as much post match. Still learning at this level, but she’s had a busy calendar with international duty and the like, so perhaps that was a factor.

ST: Racheal QUIGLEY – 7 (1 goal)
Popped up for the goal and generally her presence was effective up front. Got the assist for Nairn’s goal with a nice touch to complete the one-two. Another solid outing by one of Victory’s best signings.

Sub: Ella MASTRANTONIO – 6 (on 70′)
Had a few neat passages after coming on as a sub.

Sub: Caitlin FRIEND – N/A (on 84′)
Came on too late to make an impact
