Winger Galea to grace Olympic Village flanks

Steph Galea has joined Heidelberg United for the 2016 NPLW season, marking her return to the Victorian top flight.

The speedy winger will add depth to the club’s forward line and becomes the third signing after Joey Cartwright and Lexi Anastassiou.

A Bundoora local, she spent a number of seasons at Bundoora United FC, making a number of finals appearances including a championship defeat against Box Hill in 2012.

Her last season at Hillsview Recreation Reserve was in 2014, where she scored three goals.

Galea then had a stint in State League 1 at Preston Lions in 2015, with the club struggling to climb off the lower echelons of the table.

The winger is noted for her work rate and ability to whip in a dangerous delivery, or cut in and score goals herself.

Heidelberg United coach Bill Mihaloudis said he was delighted to acquire a player with maturity beyond her years.

“Steph is a speedy winger who reads the game exceptionally well,” Mihaloudis said.

“She is an established player who brings maturity and experience.

“Steph has settled in quickly and has been superb during pre-season and is a great asset to the team.

“I look forward to working with Steph throughout the year.”
